Elevating High School Senior & College Grad Photography in the DMV
Here in the DMV — the Washington metropolitan area (Maryland, Virginia, and DC) — high school senior photography isn’t as prevalent as it is in other parts of the country. Scroll through Instagram or Facebook and you won’t see it highlighted nearly as often as weddings or family sessions.
But that’s exactly why I’m passionate about changing that.
In places like southern Virginia and across many southern states, senior portraits are a widely known and a celebrated tradition — an expected rite of passage. And I believe our students here in the DMV deserve that same recognition, celebration, and intentional pause before stepping into their next chapter.
Why Senior & Grad Sessions Matter
A high school senior or college graduation photo session is more than just “taking pictures.” It’s about:
Celebrating achievement – Years of hard work, growth, and perseverance deserve to be honored.
Marking a milestone – The end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Building confidence – Being seen, celebrated, and affirmed during a transitional season.
Creating lasting memories – Images that families will cherish for decades.
As a parent of two college-age sons, who recently graduated, I’ve lived this transition personally. I felt the pride. I felt the joy. And yes, I felt the ache of watching them grow up. What helped me hold onto those fleeting moments were the photographs — tangible reminders of who they were at that exact point in time. It's not just a transition for our children, it's a significant transition for we as parents as well.
Photos solidify what feels like it’s moving too fast.
For Students: This Is Your Moment
To the high school senior or college grad — this session is about you. Your personality. Your journey. Your accomplishments. Your future.
It’s fun. It’s empowering. It’s transformational.
You are standing on the edge of something new. Before you leap forward, let’s pause and celebrate how far you’ve come.
For Parents: It’s Worth It
I understand that in this region, senior portraits may not feel like the norm. It might even feel like a little “extra" "extra.”
But I promise you — it is worthwhile.
This experience gives you a meaningful way to celebrate your student. It creates images you’ll look back on when the house feels quieter. It captures who they are before they step fully into adulthood.
One day, these photographs will feel priceless.
My Mission in the DMV
I’m making it my mission to elevate high school senior and college grad photography right here in the Washington metropolitan area. I want it to become something more visible, more accepted, and more readily celebrated.
Because our students deserve to be seen. These young students, these days, have a lot to offer. They have meaningful ideas, they have visions for the future, they are impressive, they are so smart, and I am impressed and amazed by their wonder. I am gratified by all that they are.
They deserve to be honored.
They deserve to be celebrated.
And I would love to offer that experience to you.
